The Privacy War With Facebook Is Still On

Despite Facebook's recent press release about 'simpler' privacy settings last week, many still believe that the war with the social networking website on privacy is far from over.

Here are some key points explaining why although the public may have won the battle, the war will still rage on:

Facebook continuously encourages people to share more about themselves. Facebook's main philosophy is that as people open up themselves more, communities will become better connected, and maybe the world will be a better place. More open interaction will allow people separated by as much as 8,000 miles to better understand each other. This basic tenet of being more open definitely runs against any policy to keep private information private.

Facebook keeps pushing for more public sharing. Actions speak louder than words, and in Facebook's case, they all point toward public sharing. Remember that back in December, Facebook reset its default settings and made more information -members' status updates, photos — public.

While Facebook asked users to approve these changes, it also made it much more difficult to access the intricate settings panel and assert your desire for greater privacy. Lists of friends were made public without approval during the December update.

Wanna share your love life?

Keep this in mind: All of Facebook's 'Recommended' privacy settings persuade members to open up status updates, photos and relationships with the world.

Now why would you want the world to know who you're dating? Facebook definitely thinks you do.
